​BERLIN — A deadly terror attack targeting a Pride parade (Christopher Street Day) in the German capital of Berlin has left one person dead and at least 29 others injured. Several of the injured remain in critical condition. German authorities have identified the primary suspect as 21-year-old Abdul Ballout, who is known to have ties to radical Islamist groups. Police have launched a massive nationwide manhunt as the suspect remains at large.

​The incident occurred around 10:00 PM local time along the Ahornsteig pedestrian path near Berlin's Tiergarten park. The attack took place just moments before thousands of attendees gathered near the iconic Brandenburg Gate for the event’s official closing celebrations.

​According to police reports, a white van drove into a densely populated pedestrian area at high speed, striking multiple bystanders before crashing into a tree. The driver immediately exited the vehicle armed with a large bladed weapon, reported to be a machete, and began attacking people nearby. The sudden violence triggered widespread panic as bystanders scrambled for safety. The assailant fled the scene on foot immediately following the attack.

​Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. One woman was pronounced dead on site, while 29 others were rushed to regional hospitals across Berlin. Medical officials confirmed that at least five individuals are currently in critical condition.

​Suspect Background and Terrorist Ties

​German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt confirmed that 21-year-old Abdul Ballout is a German citizen of Lebanese descent with a documented history of radicalization. Officials noted that Ballout was well known to security agencies for his active involvement in Berlin's Islamist scene.

​Ballout had previously been arrested for attempting to travel to the Middle East to join ISIS. He was subsequently convicted in Berlin for preparing a serious act of state-endangering violence. At the time of the attack, he was serving a 22-month suspended sentence.

​Manhunt and Security Response

​Following the attack, security measures have been heightened across Berlin and surrounding states. Federal police have intensified checks at major transit hubs, including railway stations, airports, and border crossings.

​Authorities have issued a public wanted notice featuring Ballout’s photograph and description. Police cautioned the public that the suspect is considered armed and extremely dangerous, advising anyone with information to contact law enforcement immediately rather than approaching him.

​In response to the incident, organizers immediately canceled the remaining Pride festivities to allow emergency personnel clear access to the scene and facilitate a safe evacuation of the area.
